Along with hundreds of other posts in these Newsgroups, you have undoubtedly suffered a corrupt registry. We believe this is due to leaving Word running when Microsoft Update kicks in.
To resolve this problem, run Regedit and navigate to the Word Data Key and delete the whole key. Word will automatically create a new key when it is next started.
