jaworski_m 12/28/2008 7:41:01 AM
I posted a question in the discussion group but when I click to read the post
I get the following error message:
"Community Message Not Available"

Any suggestions what's wrong?

Thank you.

Yes, there is a problem with the discussions group at the moment. Try
http://www.accessmonster.com/Default.aspx

As a temporary measure

Microsoft is having some problems with its web forums.

You can read all the answers and post questions as well by using a
newsreader. If you are using Windows, which you obviously are since you are
posting to an Access newsgroup, you can use the built-in newsreader that
comes with Windows. Depending upon your version, it will be either Outlook
Express or Windows Mail. Open the program, and go to:

Tools >>> Accounts >>> Add >>> News

and follow the dialog. When it asks for the server, it will be either:

news.microsoft.com

or:

msnews.microsoft.com

your choice. Newsreaders are significantly faster, and easier to use than a
web interface, and offer far more capability. There are many newsreaders, so
you'll have a choice of both free and paid versions. Most of those that
answer questions here prefer using a newsreader because it is so much faster
and we can both find and answer our posts easier.

Well, in fact I've been using web interface but I'd like to switch to a
newsreader.
When I enter the server name you posted and try to download available
newsgroups I get the following error message

*** Message start ***

"Unable to connect to server"
Configuration:
Account: msnews.microsoft.com
Server: msnews.microsoft.com
Protocol: NNTP
Port: 119
Secure(SSL): 0

*** Message end ***

Already tried to un/check other options such as:
- "This servers requires me to log" (and entered login data)
- "Log on using secure password authentication"

What do I miss in my configuration?
Thank you.

I use Outlook Express newsreader.

Here are the full instructions for Outlook Express:

1.. In Outlook Express, on the Tools menu, click Accounts.
2.. In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click Add, and then click News.
3.. In the Display Name box, enter your name. This is the name that is
displayed in the "from" line of your posts. Click Next.
4.. In the E-mail Address box, type the e-mail address for the account you
are using (for example, someone[ at ]example.com), and then click Next.
5.. In the News (NNTP) Server box, type news.microsoft.com. Click Next.
6.. Then click Finish. Click Close in the Internet Accounts dialog box.
7.. When you are prompted to download Internet newsgroups. Click Yes.
8.. Select the newsgroup that you want, click Subscribe, and then click
OK.
9.. Select news.microsoft.com in the left pane.
