Thread: access 97 run-time install on vista

access 97 run-time install on vista
gary k 12/11/2008 4:58:16 PM
When trying to install an access 97 run-time application on a customer's
Vista machine, I get the following error message: oleaut32 support file was
unable to register itself in the system registry

Office 2000 (including access 2000 - version 9.0) has previously been
installed on this computer. Note - before attempting to install the access
97 run-time, I renamed (the access 2000 version) msaccess.exe.

Any suggestions on how to successfully install the run-time app? My
application has been successfully installed on other customer's Vista
machines, but not being familiar with Vista I do not know the differences in
the environments.

32 or 64 bit Vista. I have had three or four users where the runtime
install did as you describe. In all cases but one we were able to
manually copy files and manually register them. The last case was Vista
64 and we never did get the runtime to install.

I should add that we had dozens of cases where Vista was not an issue at
all and the runtime install "just worked". Now, we DID have to tweak
things to get the actual 97 application to work properly (run as admin
and run in Win 98 mode), but the installer worked just fine in most cases.
