Hi,
I have Windows Office 2007 and when you save a document that you want someone with an earlier version of Word to be able to open click on that little circle with the Microsoft logo, then hit "save as" and to your right you'll see an option to save it as a Word 1997-2003 document. Then it will be okay to send and they'll be able to open it. I think docx means you're using Word 2007.
Hope this helps you. I'm struggling with Office 2007, too. So completely different!
