SVN or CVS with access
"Sebastien" <sebastien.frade[ at ]bayercropscience.com> 6/22/2007 1:07:52 PM
Hi,

I'm developping an access application and I would like to use CVS or SVN to
version the development.

Quite often, I would like to create branches to develop or test new feature.
I know it's possible and easy to handle. but I can't merge binary file.

Is there a way to automaticaly export all forms, modules, reports and so on
into a text format? So, it will be perfectly manageable by a versionning
tool. I have something similar but for Excel only.

Cheers,
Sebastien

Take a look at my February, 2005 "Access Answers" column in Pinnacle
Publication's "Smart Access".

You can download the column (and sample database) for free at

actually, there is really not much difference between editing source code
and an access applications.

VSS (visual source safe) works quite well with ms-access. Each form, report,
or even just sql quires can be check in, and out....

It also means that more then one developer can work on a application....

Info linik

You need to install the souce code add in (I assuming your using a2003).

Download page:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2ea45ff4-a916-48c5-8f84-44b91fa774bc&displaylang=en

The ms-access UI will actualy show items that are checked in and out with a
"x", or check mark, or a "lock" key sign......
