I love the highlight feature in onenote. It works , except instead of
highlighting the actual text (on which the highglighter pen is used) , the
background behind the text is coloured. Which is not a problem as such,
but if one moves around the text (which happens a lot in onenote ) . The
'highlight' doesn't move with the text..
IMHO it is only logical that the highlighted text stays highlighted even
after it is moved.
Any way to modify this behaviour? If not please take it as a feature
request..

Yes, this unfortunately is standard in ON.
Text and the highlight are different objects.
And ON does not (yet?) have a feature of grouping objects {siiiiigh}.

Yes, that's the way it should work.

I registered on microsoft connect. But apparently I cannot submit a
suggestion, because of some permission thing..

We all not see anything in this direction until the next version (if at
all).

Ctrl+Shift+h
Details -
Type text > select text > hit ctrl+shift+h !
Now the text actually gets highlighted and stays highlighted even after
text is moved! :)

highlighter tool in the toolbar (which is what I would expect).

But that's something totally different from using the "highlighter" pen
(of what you spoke before).

Just did a thorough search.. there are two seperate tools.. hightlighter
and highlight text!
I hadn't discovered highlight text before

My mistake. Inaccurate terminology is the source of confusion for me here. I
thought Anshul was referring to the highlight text tool misbehaving.
I've never thought of the pen tool as a highlighter. I've always used the
highlight tool in the formatting toolbar to highlight text.
Glad it's sorted out out now though.

To me it was clear that the pen tool was meant.

What is it called in English?
The German translation reads like the name of a highlighter pen in the
"real world".
And when using a Tablet with a pen it would be the preferred instrument
for highlighting text because it does not need marking the text first.
"Would be" only because of the shortcoming which caused the original
posting.
And it's the only tool when annotating an image and highlighting things
in PDFs f.e.

So it's good that you asked here ;-)
The problem of the "highlighter" (the pen) remains. The highlighter is
easier to use and it's the only way of highlighting text in images
(imported PDFs f.e.).
Let's all hope that things might be bettered in the next versions.

The highlight tool is based on the Ink API (which is the same technology
used for the Tablet PC and the Handwriting recognition features of
OneNote). Ink that is highlighted using the highlighter tool is treated as
any other handwritten data, and is not associated or grouped with other
content like text.
As you've found, there is that other highlighting feature which is more for
test use. It is confusing to have two features with the same name ;)
