adding a link to a doc in a custom menu

I'm using Word 2003. Can someone point me to instructions for placing a
link to a Word doc in an existing custom menu. There are several documents
I update repeatedly, and it would be nice to be able to simply click on the
menu, then on the item and have it load. I know I can do this by creating a
macro and then placing the macro, but it seems cleaner if I can place a link
directly to the doc.

It's built in already, although hidden. See

Add the Work menu to the menu bar (tools > customize) then add the
documents in question to the Work menu
To remove entries from the work menu - see the section on the
destructive cursor at
