I don't know if this is the right place to ask about this, but maybe someone knows what to do. My husband and I have separate computers. For years we have been connected, at the same time, to the internet via cable modem and a router. Now we are unable to be connected at the same time. Sometimes it's me and sometimes it's him, but never at the same time and we never know who's going to be connected or when. We've called Comcast and they say the modem is working properly and the problem is the router. The technician, who was here for three hours and replaced the modem couldn't help. All the lights on the router are blinking as they should (we've tried two different routers and they SEEM to be working properly). We are both using Windows XP and all was well until last weekend when we were at the Comcast office to exchange our cable box. While we were there, the woman behind the counter said we only needed one IP address and removed the second one she saw there. Since then, we've each had connection, but never at the same time. I am at a loss as to what to do. Should we buy a new router? Should I call Comcast again and cry or scream? Can someone here give me some suggestions?
Thanks so much in advance for your time...

No, it's not the right place to ask: this newsgroup is for questions about interacting with the internet using Access, the database product that's part of Office Professional.
You might try reposting to a newsgroup related to Windows XP or to networking: microsoft.public.windowsxp.network_web would seem to be a good choice. -- Doug Steele, Microsoft Access MVP http://I.Am/DougSteele (no private e-mails, please)

hi Maddy it sounds like to me its not the router nor the modem but that extra ip adress the removed I not sure how there set up is on there end but sounds like you suppose to have a different ip per computer by the sounds of it. I think the best thing to do or try to do is call them back and request they give you back the second ip adress and if you both able to get on the net at the same time., then that is what the problem is. hope this helps solve your problem John

Simple solution ipconfig \release Ipconfig \renew systems seem to be fighting for same ip address and router isn't helping. Also check for update to the router bios.

We had quite a few problems when we had Comcast. That¹s why we got rid of them and went to Verizon. Ever since then, we haven¹t had a problem. I¹m not saying that¹s the case. It also depends on what kind of router you are using. We three Macintosh computers in our home. Two are Leopard and one is Tiger and they all run off of our Belkin router. The laptop is wireless, so it¹s a lot easier to work with. My suggestion to you would be to look in the router¹s utility on the internet. To do this, you need to open your internet browser and type in the IP address to access it. If you don¹t know what it is, you will need to refer to the router¹s instruction manual/CD that it came with. It may be something simple. Because you said that you can connect at times and you husband can¹t/visa versa tells me that the router is getting the internet but is only routing it to the computer that it being used and not the other. If Comcast replaced your modem and that didn¹t work, then it must be the router.
Hope this helps.
