Try posting to a Works group as Works is a seperate application to Office
microsoft.public.works.win
When posting to them state the versions of Works being used

If on the other hand you are opening Works files with Office, this is to be
expected, but again might be dependent on the versions of Office & Works
being used

In what version of Works was the file created and what version are you
opening it?

BTW the suggestion to check out a Works newsgroup was right on. We will
be mostly guessing here. the Works people are there.
