.doc to PDF, without using MS word or adobe, possible?

Does anybody know if it is possible to batch convert .doc files to .pdf
WITHOUT having MS Word or Adobe installed on the local machine. Duing our
build process, we are converting several MS Word documents to PDFs. Right
now we are using a VB script that uses both Word and Adobe to generate PDF
files. We are wanting to make this process completely windowless ( run
entirely in the console), however whenever we use Word, it pops up windows
and wants user input. I have tried all suggestions that I have found through
google, however it still does not work.

Another reason we are wanting to stay away from word or adobe, is that we
are trying to slim down the amount of software required in our build
machines. They are virtual machine images and they need to be fairly
portable.

Anybody have any idea on how to do this? I'm up to pretty much using any
language.

Thanks,

Nick

Hi =?Utf-8?B?TmljayBTY2h1bHR6?=,

Depends on which version of Word created the documents and in which file format
they've been saved. If it's 2003 or 2007 XML then you can certainly create (or
use) a transform. AltSoft has such a transform you can license, I believe.
