Thank you for the suggestion. I have downloaded the viewer, but I was hoping for something which would (at the least) allow me to extract images. I have tried two other routes which do give me at least that.
1) An other online .doc to .pdf converter, which I just found, that doesn't limit the file size. Once in .pdf it is rather easy to get the images.
2) Open Office. I tried saving one of the files as .rtf, but when I open that in my usual word processor (WordPerfect) the images are not scaled properly. At least I can edit the document if I wish.
