file recovery

Instead of "save as" I entered "save" and thus accidentally overwrote a file
in Word this afternoon. Is there a way that I can retrieve an eariler
version of the file (from this morning) before I overwrote it? Thanks.

Not if you've closed the file and don't have a backup.

If OS is Vista Business or Ultimate possibly using the "previous versions"
feature of those OS. If not, hopefully you have a copy in a backup file
somewhere otherwise you are out of luck.
