How to change color of globe in contemporary template?

With Word 2003: The built-in contemporary letter template has some
background gray bars and a globe image embedded in headers and
footers. I'd like to change the color. It's easy with the bars, but
I can't see how to do that with the globe image - short of rejiggering
it with photoshop or some such, which I don't have. Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated. THANKS.

View, Header & Footers, ungroup the globe twice, recolor.

This works, though I don't understand what just happened. Thanks,
Mary.

Caveat: Once the color is changed, if I attempt to change the
transparency setting I get a message saying "The measurement must be
between 0" and 0". That's now. A little while ago, it was " between
0" and .6" ". I can't find any way to satisfy this constraint.
Thoughts?
