Windows 2007 Compatibility Mode
I set my default in Win 2007 to save in the compatible mode. However, I
still cannot open documents saved this way at work which has Win 2003. I
cannot install the compatibility pack at work because I do not have
administrative priviledges on my computer. Any suggestions?...

Strange Word behavior. Please advise.
When I open an existing document, the text appears and then disappears. The
document remains blank for long seconds. When the text reappears, the
Window's top bar is greyed, as if it is not the "active" document. I can get
the "active" bar after diminishing and then restoring the document.
What might be causing this behavior, and what, if anything, can I or should
I do about it?

Style bug and Style compatibility issues
I am going berserk trying to figure out why Word 2007 keeps ignoring a
formatting change I make, again and again, for a style, once I close the
document and reopen it. The formatting that it keeps reverting back to is the
"AllCaps" font. When I select the character-formatted word, its highlighted
Quick Style, displayed in the Gallery, shows a preview NOT in AllCaps, yet
the selected word...

Winword.exe keeps running when Word 2000 is closed
Is it normal for Winword.exe to keep 'hanging around' when I close Word
2000?

I have a feeling it is causing problems with some of my other applications.
Is there a way to ensure that Winword.exe exits then Word closes?

styles not saved in NORMAL template
In Word 2003: periodically I lose all the styles and the customized toolbar
I keep in my Normal template.
Now it is worse: I keep customizing the toolbar, saving it as a new Normal
template (deleting the old template), and still it is not saved. Any ideas?

Default zoom ratio
Is it possible to set a default zoom ratio for Word 2000 that applies to
all documents (existing and new) on opening?
Having read <http://word.mvps.org/faqs/general/SaveViewAndZoom.htm> I
suspect the answer is "No", but perhaps I am missing something?

deleted DataKey, still have problems
Hi,
I have a problem with Word hanging up when I use find and replace and
sometimes when I save files. It shows the spinning wheel in the upper right
corner and when I Ctrl + Alt + Del it asks if I want to wait or close the
program. I've tried waiting, but nothing happens, so I close the program.
I've tried deleting the DataKey. That usually solves the problem for a

Word does not open my document the first time
When I select a document to open, it first goes to a blank Word page. I then
have to click on the Windows logo in the top left corner to view a listing of
documents and choose it from there. How do I get the document to open the
first time I click on it instead of going through these extra steps?...

Can't open Word Documents
Please help, I have been working on my thesis and have saved many drafts in

savedate not updating - Word 2007
I added SaveDate and PrintDate to the footer of a Word 2007 document but they
never change. They always show the orignal save and print dates even after I
save, close, and re-open the document.
How can I get Word 2007 to automatically update these dates? I added them
by using QuickParts-->Field.....

How do I open document created by early version of Word?
I have old documents created by Word 2.0. I now use Word 2003 (11.8227.8221)
SP3. When I try to open an old word document, I get the following message:

Table of Contents reorders in different views
I'm having a problem with my table of contents showing different levels of
the TOC in different places. For example, this is the correct view, and what
I see in Normal, Outline view:

Word 2007 PAGEREF Fields Change in Print Preview
Anyone seen the following?
I have a .doc file being edited in Word 2007 compatibility mode. There are
a number of PAGEREF fields pointing to the page number of an associated
bookmark and hyperlinked. {PAGEREF S321 /h} (or similar). The S321
represents Section 3.2.1.
What is happening is as follows:
All fields are updated and pages are verified to be correct.

losing word document to notepad while typing
while typing document in word it will change into a notepad document and all

Word will not open email attachements
Everytime I open an email attached document, or open a docement by double

Files not Saving from Email
We're still using XP and just recently a few users in my company have
reported that when they save Word files from email to our shared drive, the
files are not saving (although they appear to) and are not providing any kind
of error message or warning. A few times this has resulted in an older wrong
version of the file being stored or sent for approval. Any ideas what could
be causing ...

Losing cursor in Word 2003
I keep losing my cursor in Word 2003. I can type for around 25 seconds and
then the cursor disappears and the document seems to go into the background.
Then after about 25 seconds or so it comes back....

Word eventually stops responding.
When alternating between open documents, the process slows down quite a bit,
then finally I get a message that Word is not responding, and the text itself
gets light for a time. Sometimes it doesn't recover at all, and I lose a lot
of text in both documents. Has anybody else experienced this? If so, how do I
improve the process? Thanks....
