Updating Caption Numbers
I have a Word 2007 document that was prepared by pasting from several other documents. As a result the Caption Numbers are not sequential. I can update each caption number by selection each one at a time and choosing update field. Surely there is some way (short of VBA code) to update all the captions at one time and have them all sequentially numbered. Thanks, Will ...

Word automatic number above 100 issue resolution without using SEQ
I have seen multiple posts on this but I found an easier way around the issue. I am using Word 2007. When numbering paragraphs using the list numbering and trying to number paragraphs as follows (0001....0010....0099....0100) there is an issue. 0100 becomes 00100. This is because the list number is just inserting 2 leading zeros no matter what the number is. The common approach to g...

converting autonumbers into hard-coded static numbers
In MS Word, we currently number heading levels: Section 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, Section 2, 2.1, etc.. These numbers auto-increment throughout the document and are used to generate the TOC and cross-references. We need a tool to freeze this Section numbering system (after we finalize the file and generate the TOC, etc) and "hard-code" the numbers as regular text (keep the numbers but remove the a...

Incorrect Paragraph Lettering
Thanks to Stephan Blom and Shauna Kelly the numbering of headings seems to be behaving itself. Unfortunately it appears that Word will not let me off the hook that easily. My template includes an alphabetically numbered paragraph. It refuses to respond to the "Restart Numbering" command. How can I bring this under control? Incorrect Paragraph Numbering
I have created a template with four levels of headings and sub-paragraphs. The headings are outline numbered. If, for example, I have a heading (Level One) such as "4 DEFINITIONS" and I attempt to create a sub-heading (Level Two) I get "1.1 Terms" instead of "4.1 terms". This is not solved by right-clicking and selecting "Continue Numbering" All help appreciated Thanks -- R...

Outline number tab space after
I am working in Word XP. I am modifying Heading 1 to have ARTICLE 1 numbering. I would like to have no tab space after the ARTICLE 1 number as I will be putting in a Shift+Enter to have the text for this heading on a second line. Outline numbering is whacked
I feel I am a pretty good MS Word user, and rarely have a problem I can't solve, but this is one of those occasions. So far, I've been able to get Outline Numbering to do what I want, i.e. the correct level, numbering, etc. I am using the relatively simple 1.0 - 1.1 - 1.1.1 type of numbering, using the menu selections "Format" > "Bullets and Numbering." I have now encountere...

Merged document numbering issues
The company I work for uses an application that takes mulitple word documents and merges them into one meta-document with Section Breaks between each document. This document is then faxed or emailed. Our problem is with page numbering. We use templates for the documents, and in the footers have { Page } of { SectionPages } which unfortunately gives us pages that number like this: 1 of 2...
