LISTNUM with multiple lists in Word 2003
I am having issues using multiple lists with the LISTNUM field in Word
2003. I have broken the issue down to a simple replicatable case. I
insert 2 LISTNUM fields, each on a different line. I then name the
first list "Test" and the second list "Test2". At this point the
fields are "1)" and "2)". I then change the format of the the second
one using the "Bullets and Numbering" dialog (for ...

Non-Numbered Pages
I am putting together a thesis with front matter. I have the front matter and
body of the manuscript numbered differently, but of the ten pages of front
matter, I need the first two pages and last two pages of it unnumbered. How
can I do that? I have created section breaks but if I add or delete page
numbers in any of the sections, all of the page numbers disappear or page
numbers appear...

I insert page numbers, "not on first page"...and my header disappe
My letterhead template is set up to have a logo/address that appears only on
the first page of a Word document. After the first page, there's a section
break after which I have "unlinked" the header from page 1, and erased the
logo/address. So far, so good.
If I insert page numbers to appear on ALL the pages, everything works as it
should. So far, good.
But when I try to insert a p...

Item numbering keeps reverting to continuous
I have numbered items on every other page of my document. As I proceed
through the editing process, I meticulously (I think) define the numbering
through "styles and formatting", and turn off the modify option. However,
many (sometimes, not all) of the numbering reverts to continuous at some
(unknown) later stage in my editing.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It usually means that I...

Numbering Issues
I was brought a document to get the proper numbers on each page. When ever
I go to start a new section it continues off the old numbering. I can't get
it to change this. I am currently at 117(j). I need to go 118(a-i). If I
go to the next page and put 118 in, it puts it all through the 117's. I
have a 124 pages to fix, and section 118, I can hopefully get this fixed as
I think it ...

Nested numbered lists not Heading level
How do I get the following to work?
1. item
2. item
3. item
a. nested item
b. nested item
4. item
5. item
c. nested item (should restart at a)
d. nested item (should be b)
I've tried everything obvious I can think of, i.e., right-click and select
restart
numbering, etc. Should I create another identical style, except in name, so
Word can see the obvious?

Word 03 - {PAGE } no matter what I try
Hello,
I am trying to set page numbers in a document in Word 2003. I go into
Insert>Page Numbers, say where I want them, and then click on Format
to tell it what style of numbers and what number to start. All that
happens is that {PAGE } appears on each page.
So I read this newsgroup for a while and I got to
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/numbering/PageNumbering.htm which, under Big

Formatting of LISTNUM in Word 2007
I am using the field LISTNUM to number equations in my Word 2007 document.
It appears that the default format for LISTNUM is “1)†with the right
parenthesis included. I have right clicked on the number field and defined a
new format so that the number will appear only as “1†without the
parenthesis. This works as long as I have the document open. However, if I

Heading numbers not being updated
Hi all,
I've read lots of posts and I think my problem is that Word is not
doing what its supposed to do.
I have 2 source docs that feed into a target doc. Each source doc has
2 headings (Level 1). I use INCLUDETEXT to import the text of the 2
src docs.
When I import into the target doc I get:

Header 1
Text of doc 1, section 1.

Numbered lists resets to "continue numbering"
I have defined the NL style for numbered lists. It always wants to
continue numbering from the previous list rather than restarting
numbering at 1 for each new list. If I right-click, select Bullets and
Numbering, then turn on the Restart Numbering option, it resets to
Continue as soon as I close the dialog box.
What gives - any ideas?
Thanks.

Numbered Normals extend past right margin
I'm working on a doc that first came to me with everything as Normal style,
modified by hand.
I'm adding and applying new styles to it and generally it is okay, except for
one thing: Any Normal paragraph that has a number as the first character
extends past the right margin, apparently forever (meaning even very long
paragraphs don't wrap).
These are numbered paragraphs, and usually ...
