Error message using gmail to send
"t-4-2" <dhuang1[ at ]cogeco.ca> 12/30/2008 3:29:08 PM
Hello,
I have included a gmail account in my WLM. First time trying to send e-mail
in that account. Received error message :
The server does not support a SSL connection.

Subject 'test message'
Server Error: 250
Server Response: 250 ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
Server: 'smtp.gmail.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC7D
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 25
Secure(SSL): Yes

How do I get the server to support SSL connection ? Thank you.

Change the outgoing port to 465.

Changed to port 465, does not work. See error message :

An unknown error has occurred.

Subject 'Test message #2'
Server: 'smtp.gmail.com'
Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC0B
Protocol: SMTP
Port: 465
Secure(SSL): Yes

Your outgoing server settings are incorrect. You should use Port 465
for the outgoing (SMTP) server.

If you are using IMAP, you should use Port 993 for incoming mail. If
you are using POP3, you should use Port 995 for incoming mail.

All of these servers require a secure (SSL) connection

The GMail help pages don't provide detailed instructions on how to
configure WLMail. However, the instructions for Outlook Express are
more or less the same.

If you are using IMAP, you will find these instructions at
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=77659.

If you are using POP3 / SMTP, you will find instructions at
http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=76147.

Incidentally, the "gmail" or "googlemail" server names are
interchangeable. It doesn't matter which you use.

As an addendum to my previous post, you must also enable POP and/or
IMAP access on your account (via the gmail website).

I went through my gmail account and found out that I did not check the box "
My server requires authentication ". It's working now. Thank you both.
