Windows Installer problem(s) on Win2K
I've had to reinstall the OS (Win2K+SP4) on my main machine, since when I

gets so far, then displays the "This patch package could not be opened..."
message. Updated Installer to latest version, but didn't help/solve it; gone

Using VS2005 setup project for VB6-compiled programs
I have a legacy VB6 project that has been supported only up through Win XP.
As an aside, we have migrated the product years ago to VS2003, then to
VS2005,
and will port to VS2008 next year. The VB6 project group used the VB6 PDW
for
deployment. We now have one client insisting on getting this to work on
Vista.
I've managed to revise the project group to compile and run on Vista using
VB...

CRT merge module problem on Vista 64
I've got a problem with the CRT merge modules that only seems to affect Vista 64. I'm using
Microsoft_VC80_CRT_x86.msm and policy_8_0_Microsoft_VC80_CRT_x86.msm in my installer. On a clean XP
system the installer fails to start my service when these merge modules are missing. If I add them
then everything is fine, so I guess they work. This does not seem to be the case on Vista 64. The...

Create minor upgrade while using a newer digital signature
I have a package that released in June that was digitally signed with

However, I cannot get the patches to work correctly.
1. I exported the digital signature from the original release and
imported it into the msiDigitalCertificate table.

What do you think about MSI wrappers?
What do you think about using MSI wrappers, i.e. encapsulating setup.exe in
MSI in order to deploy by GPO, or encapsulating MSI in order to specify some
command-line parameters - when creating transform is for whatever reason not
possible.
I thought is quite bad idea since it creates the illusion of the possibility
to uninstal and repair in add/remove programs, which may not be the case...
