WPS WiFi w. Vista on Intel 4965AGN
I am trying to connect my Dell 1720 w. Vista Home to a Wireless-N router
using WiFi Protected Setup aka WPS.
The adapter is an Intel 4965AGN which, according to the Intel website is
certified for WPS.
I can connect to the router with no security using the 1720/4965AGN. I
have already configured another computer to connect to the router
successfully with WPS.
Here's the problem:

Internet connection speed random slowdown
I have an 8Mbit/sec (nominal) Internet connection speed to a router (Netgear), a wired
connection to my desktop and a wireless link to my 2 laptops, one of which has a fixed LAN
IP address.
Normally, I get a good speed that hovers around 7Mbit/sec, but randomly it decreases to a
ridiculous value of 1-1.5-2 Mbit7sec., with a ping time of almost 400msec to a server that
is less than 20 mile...

Wireless connected Balloon tip
I'm running a Dell Inspiron 6000, XP MCE 2005, SP3, and wireless. The
balloon tip keeps popping up saying 'connected'. Oh maybe every 10-30
minutes or so. I sorta thought I had a lousy connection to the
router or too many people in the area and it was just doing its thing
(thankfully) and re-connecting. This has been a long term issue. Not
even sure if April's virgin load was ...

One particular laptop connects with no problems at all; however, both IE7

The connection is not lost - but the tray icons shows no traffic.
The browsers, or OE6, do not freeze. Downloads 'pause' periodically.
