Creating subnets
Hi Folks
This message previously posted at Server/SBS, but I was advised to put it in
Servers/Windows Server 2003 or WS 2008 - I can seem to find either, so I hope
this is now the right location?
I am busy setting up a network in a school and need to have more than one
subnet as we will run out of ip addresses when new PCs are purchased soon.

New Domain Migrating Old AD & Exchange
I need to set up a new domain on a new server and transfer all the
information from the Active Directory and Exchange onto the new server and

Win2k3 Enterprise, 16GB RAM HP DL580 G2
I have a DL580G2 with 16GB of RAM, (4) 2.8GHz Xeon processors and Win2k3
Enterprise. I have to run the /PAE switch to get Windows to see all 16GB
of RAM. Without it I only get 3.5GB. Is this normal?? The DL580G2 has
(2) hot-swap memory boards in it. Is this more of a problem with the
580G2? Both the hardware and OS should natively support 32GB of RAM
shouldn't they?

Install Windows Server 2008 EE x64
I downloaded the iso file of Windows Server 2008 EE x64 from MS website
Burned it on DVD using nero 8 on a Windows Server 2003 x32 machine
When booting the DVD on HP xw6200 machine, it was hanging at "Attempting
Boot from CD-ROM". It is OK to boot the DVD of OS x32 on the machine. Any
idea? Thanks....

Do I need a 64 bit system to run 8 gig memory for VMware.
I have a Windows 2003 Server running on my old computer - a Pentium IV 2200
with 1 gig of memory. I use it to run VMWare Workstation to allow me to
simulate a WIndows Domain for training purposes. The system just blew a
mboard, and I need t o upgrade the unit. Further, when I was running four
virtual Windows systems, the system crawled.

has anyone used successfully Sapphire HD 3650 on w2k8 console?
what driver to use? just use the default windows driver
can one use dual display with the HD 3650 on the w2k8 console?
I don't expect fancy graphic capability being used on w2k8 console but I do

*Advise needed* Changing a SBS2000 to Win2003 ENT
Hi all,
Here's my predicament. I inherited a Win 2000 SBS domain when I started my
current job. SBS limitations are plenty (no other DC's etc.), so I need to
move on to 'real flavors' of Windows server, specifically 2003 ent.
The MS prescribed method of accomplishing this goal basically calls for

Email Alerts on Server 2003 R2?
SBS 2003 there's a nice system for emailing Alerts built in Monitoring and
Reporting. I found MS System Center, which is much more than I need.
Is there a way to get basic alerts emailed to me from a remote server? ...

File Server Best Practice
I have been tasked with cleaning up the file server for my

Fail on services during start up
Hi!
We have servers that some services doesn't start automatically because they
can't contact AD when it's booting up, some services like SQL Server. So we
have to configure it to try in case of fail, and anyway, we have to start it
manually.
In event viewer, event 5719 on Netlogon and event 18 on W32Time, among
others, are very common.
How can I solve this problem?

Server 2008 downgrade - users directory redirection
I upgraded 2003 server to server 2008. I had issues that I could not
resolve so I tried to downgrade the server back to 2003. Even though I had
the Server 2003 setup program delete the old windows installation I can't
install server 2003 to install properly or can I install the service pack.

Change licence key from OEM to VLK
Hi,
We have a number of servers running 2003 R2 SP2, OEM licenced. I need to be
able to convert these machines to virtual machines, but can't as the licence
requires activation again as soon as the VM is started.
I have a VLK to avoid this issue going forward, but I'm still left with
these machines on the OEM licence.

Windows Server 2008 Enterprise
I am installing W2K8 Ent x64 in a Boot from SAN scenario. HP DL480c Server
and IBM DS4700 storage. The server sees the storage no problem. The issue is
that W2K8 will only install on a LUN (vDisk) of 133GB size or greater. If the
LUN is smaller than that (133GB) I get an error - windows could not create a

Windows 2003 Ent. Edition cant recognize 8GB RAM
i upgraded our server (Dell PE6600) from 4 GB to 8GB. The bios and the dell
open manager tells that the server has 8GB, but the windows properties says
it has 4GB only. I wanted to setup at least 3 (2x2GB RAM, 1x1GB RAM) Virtual
Machines, that will serves as POC or demo environment, but cant setup coz

A Question on DNS Setup;
Most of my DNS servers are also DC's and they are AD integrated. I am

Un Instal software problem
Hi All,
Using Windows 2008 Enterprise 64 bits.
I am trying to Un Install software which is Acronis True Image, but Windows
2008 does not let me do that. I get the User Account Control dialog and then
I click the Allow option and it continues to Gather some info and then it

Roaming Profiles not working properly for 1 user
I have recently setup roaming profiles for several users and it's working
great. However, not so for 1 user. The failure is that on the workstation
shutdown the changes made by the user are not uploaded to the server where
the "Profile Path" is directed. It does download data from profile path
during the bootup process, but that is only half the job. I need changes

Server 2008 dcpromo
I may be in the wrong forum with Server 2008 however, I cannot find anything
2008. My problem is that when I want to promote the server it always gives
me an error saying that the IP is set to Dynamic. I clearly have set a Fix
IP 192.168.0.1 and DNS 192.168.0.1. For some reason it doesn't accept the
DNS. Where do I go wrong?
Any clues would be appreciated....

Setting up windows 2003 r2 standard as member server
I am about to setup Windows 2003 R2 Standard Edition as a member server. It
will be connected to a Windows 2003 SBS. Can someone point me to some setup
documentations that provides details and do's and don'ts? The Standard
