No Windows old folder?
Since I formatted (one or two will remember me having had to do this) I
now notice that I have no Windows.old folder, is this normal? I used to
get it but since formatting and installing Vista due to my previous
installation troubles it has not shown itself.......I thought it should
have been there, but no.
I must admit that I always disliked it being there, and had in the past
(year or so) trie...

Restoring Vista using Windows.old?
Hey everyone!
Yesterday, Alcohol (the application) bummed up my Windows Vista so badly
that I simply had to reinstall everything. Now since I ended up with a
Windows.old folder containing everything from my previous Vista installation,
I was hoping that I could somehow use this to e.g. recover my Sidebar and the
way I had configured how I want Vista to look (you know with font types and...

HD Upgrade with Acronis 10
I upgraded my 100 GB to a new 250 GB by using the clone function of
Acronis 10 on my Compaq Laptop with Vista Home. I set the clone to do
an autoverify afterwards and it completed with no errors.
250 GB was hooked up as a USB drive and clone went without problems but
when I replaced the 100 with the 250 and tried to boot, I get a message
from a black screen "unable to load \windows\s...

error 0x80300025
In trying to install windows vista on our brand-new, just-out-of-the-box
computer, it refused to install. It gave me the error code 0x80300025,
saying that it couldn't clean disk 0 because the specified disk did not
exist. The error, the message said, occured when it tried to apply
<DiskConfiguration>.
Any idea of what's causing this?

Favorites folder
I know that I can move my profile's folders (Documents, Images, Music
etc) where I want them to by right click > Properties > Location > Move.
Well, I accidentally moved the Favorites folder from my profile to the
root folder of D: and not to D:\Favorites (a folder I had created for
that reason).
Is there a way to move them back to the place I want (D:\Favorites)?

Vista Problems
I have two major issues with Vista Home Premium (HP OEM version).
The first is the refusal of the software to recognize one of my drives. I
have an external Maxtor 320 gig drive which is split into two logical drives
(G: and H:). Vista recognizes drive H: but cannot read G:
When I hook this drive to my other computer (Gateway with 1 Gig ram, running
XP Home) there is no problem recogni...

Installers freeze
I have an Acer Aspire 5920 laptop running Vista Home Premium and I'm having
problems installing new software. Some examples are: iTunes, Winzip, Java
updates... pretty much anything that uses the Microsoft installer service
msi, I'm guessing.
I've tried many different things to solve the problem:
Re-register vbscript
Re-register msiexec
Install version 4.5 of the installer

Can't upgrade from business to ultimate
I have a retail disc which I got a while ago after I already had Vista
Business installed on my machine. I tried upgrading a while back, but the
installation would go through the entire process and then fail to boot into
windows at the very end.
I gave up, and then just tried again hoping SP1 fixed the problem. Now, when
I try to install, it does not even give me the option to upgrade, ...

64-bit vs 32-bit Vista
G'Day All,
I will be installing Vista HP on a new PC next week.
I will have the option to install either a 64-bit or a 32-bit version.
Can anyone advise on the Pros and Cons to be weighed, and the impact on
software?

2 vista disks doesn't work?
I have a Vista and also a cloned vista for backup.
After about 4 days something happened so I booted from the old vista.
About 50% of the files on the new vista got copied over by the old
vista. Why does this happen?
Strangest thing was my email (thunderbird). The email files got
SWITCHED! The old went to the new and vice versa. That isn't easy to do.
I also lost my nice new desktop...

Vista 32 and 64 bit dual boot
Hi, I have Vista 32 bit installed on my system and was wondering how do
I go about setting a dual boot with Vista 64 bit, so that I can choose
either OS at boot. I have a 500 gb hard drive and plan on using 100 or
more for the partition. Any ideas? Virtual machines are not an option!
Oh, and I do have two Vista licenses.

New PC doesn't boot after Vista Install
Hi Guys, after buying a new Megaware/ASUS PC with Vista Home Premium in
Portuguese, I reinstalled, first my old XP in English (no boot) and then
Vista Ulimate in English also no boot.
The installation works fine and installs to my SATA c-drive, but then
when I reboot, nothing. I read somewhere that SATA drivers are not
provided with Vista (and therefore I guess not with XP either), and you
