Making Vista machines part of a domain
Hi folks,
We have a few remote users who have Dell laptops with Vista Business.
Originally they were set up as stand alone machine, no domain authentication.
I recently set up a VPN between our main office and the branch office, and I
now want to make these machines part of my domain.
Anyone want to share any of the steps they have used to accomplish this? I
assume like with XP, tha...

hidden partiton recovery dell xps 420
I have a Dell xps 420 desktop with the hidden recovery partition.
My f8 option no longer works to recover to new (advanced boot options
menu) I do not have the "repair my computer" option I once had.
Can I unhide (with acronis) and boot from the recovery partition to do
this? I just
want to recover it back to the way it was as i received it new from
dell.

Upgrade Win Xp PRO to Vista Home Premium - Windows Easy Transfer (REPLACEMEMT)
G'Day All,
This requires a clean install - ok!
I can use WET/XPpro to transfer settings etc to a USB 80MB external drive.
I THINK that I THEN need to:
1. Upgrade to Vista
2. Reinstall apps
3. Use WET/VistaH/P to restore the settings from the USB drive.
Are steps 2 and 3 in the correct order?

Force SoundMax Driver Install
I'm installing Vista on an old box for my Mother to use for web & email.
Asus Terminator P4-533A (uses P4SC mobo)
Install went smoothly but Windows Update made the same mistake as it
did when using XP on this box: it identified the onboard Audio chipset
as SIS 7012 instead of SoundMax AD1980.
Vista will not let me update to the SoundMax drivers. XP did the same
thing but I found a work around ...

obsolete USB Scanners and Vista
For those of you who have USB scanners that Vista has reported to be
incompatible, do the following.
1- Make sure you have your scanner installation CD
2- Unplug the USB lead from the scanner to the computer.
3- Restart Vista
4- Plug in the USB cable for the scanner to your computer.
5- Vista will state "new hardware found, searching for drivers" let this
finish, you will then be prompted...

Not all users are "stupid"
Hi,
I would just like to make a statement to hope for a more streamlined
deployment of Microsoft Windows. This would neccessarily apply to the
upcoming version.
While I am lenient to commend Microsoft on their efforts to make Windows as
broadly accessible as well as safe, I have to say that I am greatly dismayed
as an IT professional.
So my wish is that you consider making availab...

Vista Image Problems
We are having problems with imaging our Vista laptops.
Current setup is, small boot partition then large second partition for
Vista C:. This is because we are going to use Bit locker to encrypt the
main drive for security so the boot drive (system drive from MS eyes)
and Vista partition (Boot drive from MS eyes) cannot be the same.
Setup is very similar to systems sent to use by HP or Dell where ...

Unfortunately now we couldn't do a restore back to the original factory
