Service Pack 3. Another dud?
Service pack three is a pretty big download. Is it more bloatware, like
Windows Vista, or is it worthwhile installing on a family computer? I
dislike clogging up my computer with a lot of unnecessary "improvements".
Win XP Sp2 is pretty good, with a reasonable footprint.

SP3 Blue-screens after install on RAID-0 config
Hi,
I installed SP3 successfully on my old computer that has 1 working drive.
However, on my new Dell XPS 410 computer I'm running RAID 0 and SP3
blue-screened -- both in Normal Mode and in Safe Mode. I had to do a Repair
Install of SP2 to get my computer up then reinstall IE7 to get online (IE6
wouldn't work after that).
Any ideas? Dell support has not clue why this is happening. I...

Partition size
New laptop without OS, 250GB hard drive. I plan install windows XP.
Does it make sense to divide hard drive into two partitions, one 20GB for
Win XP and programs (C), and the rest for data (D)?
Will 20GB enough for C partition? Or better just create one partition at the
maximum size possible? so the default number provided will be the maximum
space available and the best choice?

Sudden shutdown and power off
Win XP Home. Installed Ulead Video software successfully (printed the manual).
Days later, computer shuts down to complete power off shortly after
startup. I could get to Safe Mode and operate without shutdown for a long
time. I cannot get to Safe Mode now. I am able to operate the CDROM without
shutdowns.
Assuming a virus, I reinstalled the OS. Still the shutdown occurs at
startup....

Admin is locked out of All Users' "Documents" subfolders
I (Administrator) cannot access the subfolders of C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Documents: \microsoft; \My Music ; \My Pictures ;\My
Projects ;\My Videos. Consequently I am being prevented from installing an
app suite that wishes to write to "My Projects" but cannot. This is a one
user system and has never been prevented from any installation before now.

Hardware technician with software question

Can't reinstall DirectX
On my WinXP Pro (32bit) I tried to install a game, and when it got to
the DirectX install/check, it failed.
So I ran it manually, and I get the error:

Need to delete so leftover icons
I have 2 icons I need to delete.
One is on the desktop and I can not read properties to see what it is.

Start menu bar and other icons won't show up

Hi. I have WinXP pro SP2 and I have a pop-up every 10 seconds saying:
"My Documents.exe - No Disk"
"There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive A:"
and it gives you 3 buttons: "cancel, try again and continue".

Mouse
I have just installed a wireless mouse and keyboard on the computer but when
the computer boots up it doesn't recognize there is a mouse attached until I
log in. You have hit F1 to bypass the first before log in screen. Any
suggestions to stop this from happening would be greatful....

Strange Window before the logon window
Hello,
I have changed the letter of my secondary hard disk et now just before the
logon screen (at the start of Windows and when I change the user, before the
logon sreen) I see a strange window appears containing non sense characters
and with just an "OK" button. If I click on this button the window disappears
and then everything works well.

Browsers won't connect-all other internet connections are fine
Hi, hope someone has some ideas.
Neither IE or Firefox can display web pages. All other connections are
working fine.
The virus program (Mcaffee) gets it's updates as well as automatic Windows
updates and anything else that connects in the background.
I can ping anything just fine.
I have a valid IP, which has been flushed and renewed several times.
Have done the obvious, rebooted the DSL...

Downloading System Disk
Hi everyone, I'm a Vista user, but i told my gf's sister I would help her
figure out what's wrong with her laptop, which runs on XP home. She either
didn't make or lost her system disks, and I need them to get her computer to
start so I can play with it. I obviously can't make any on my computer, but
I thought I could download what I needed. Is there somewhere I can do this?...

Windows XP boots to background only, no start button, no icons...
....and Ctrl+Alt+Delete and Ctrl+Shift+Esc do nothing. I've also tried
restarting in to Safe Mode. All I get is a blank screen with Safe Mode in
the corners. There is no way to run any program. Safe Mode with Command
prompt does the same thing.
Anyone have any idea how to restore the desktop when running any program is
disabled??? Thanks in advance!!!

I am about to do a clean reinstall of XPpro.
Do I still need to install SP2 before SP3, or does SP3 include all the
SP2 fixes?
From what I have gathered SP3 includes all the SP2 fixes ut I just
want to be sure!

ho un problema assurdo:
win xp pro sp3 con tutti gli update, macchina dell atg e6400.
il pc funziona regolare ma la funzione File non in linea è un disastro, o
meglio:
se l'attivo da risorse del computer funziona, fa la sincronizzazione e tutto
il resto.
