USB flash drive gets not formatted error
I have WinXP SP2. Just recently started getting an error whenever I install
any USB flash drive. The drives get the USB Mass Storage Driver installed
and get a drive letter. But Windows Explorer cannot open the drive. An
error window opens stating "The disk in drive X is not formatted. Do you
want to format it now?" I can use the flash drives successfully on other XP

Hard disk failing check > mobo strange behaviour
Suspecting that my hdd may be failing, ran a seatool test and it confirm that
the hard disk is failing. So I decided to replace a new hdd from a 40gb to
160gb hdd. As usual mount on the pc> power on> and it says
checking system health ok>cpu id...> checking NVRAM...update ok> 262144kb

My Computer icon deleted. How to get it back on my desktop ?
I was just fooling around and deleted the My Computer icon. The only one
there is now is the newer start menu view which I don`t like. I use Classic
view. I`m surprised Windows let me delete it. Win XP Home SP3. Any ideas ?
It`s been a few weeks so I don`t want to get it back by doing a restore.

USB hdd detected but not working
Hi,
I have a Western Digital hdd that I put in to a cradle to back up my data
via usb. I backed up and had to reinstall windows due to a virus. After the
reinstall the pc shows the drive as a usb connected device and in windows
hardware manager shows it as enabled and working. I look for it in the my

Atheros 8121 ethernet controller says gigabit on the box (Asus P5Q
It is advertised as gigabt=1000 megabits but only shows up as 100 megabits.

Measure Data Throughput
I need a tool to measure the amount of data being transferred though my
network devices. Ideally, it's got to be free, and tells me the max data
rate. Maybe it also tells how much data was transferred.
I'm playing with NetStat Live, which looks easy enough...but is it accurate?
I'm not looking for a perfect measurement tool, just something I can use to
demonstrate relative bandwidth us...

CD/DVD Drive not seeing newly inserted media
Hi All,
This is on a Dell Latitude D610 running XP.
Problem is that the drive does not recognise newly inserted media.
Device manager is not indicating a problem.
Have updated the CD/DVD drive firmware from the Dell website without
success.
If the laptop is put into suspend, or rebooted with media in the drive it
works ok, but insert any media (have tried various) when the laptop ...

USA to UK Webcam compatibility
I bought the LifeCam VX-5000 in the USA and brought it to the UK. However, on
loading the CD, the installation will not move past the first window because
it will not recognize the internet connection ("setup cannot continue because
you are not connected to the internet or the server is unavailable. Connect
to the internet and then run setup again"), even though the internet is

Adding IDE Drive to New System with ATA / SATA Architecture
Finally got a new system, made my buy, no problem with Vista [ Hitachi HDP725
SCSI 160GB HD ], (new drive). Added Maxtor 'OneTouch' USB 500GB external HD
for backup. I attached my Samsung SP1203N 120GB HD using a UDMA connection

LG GH22 combo Internal DVD re writer
the original drive failed on my PC and I installed a new LG GH22 internal
drive this afternoon. On booting up I got an indicator telling me that new
hardware had been found. I inserted a DVD and the player worked but my
question is do I need to update the drivers for this hardware ( old player
was DVD ROM). If I do, which website should I use ( tried looking on LG site
was not much help)...

VX-6000 "1.3 MP Video capture disabled"
I have the VX-6000 installed on XP SP2. For whatever reason, in the
Settings->Resolution dropdown, I'm unable to select the 1.3 MP video
resolution. The 1.3 MP dropdown includes the following: "(Video capture

USB Drive Letter
Is there a way to lock down the drive letter associated with an external USB
drive? If I plug in a thumb drive or other USB device before booting up,
the drive letter associated with the USB external hard drive changes.

USB interruptions
Hi,
Recently I installed an HP Officejet printer with USB interface; software
installed fine and printer also functions normally.
The only thing is that USB connection is lost (disrupts shortly) every now
and then (somewhere between minutes and hours).
Sometimes after reboot, the printer reinstalls itself again as the computer
finds "new hardware".
All USB ports show no problems in dev...

MS Wireless Keyboard 6000 and WordPerfect 9

DVD drive not recognized outside of Safe Mode Admin

I've installed a new motherboard, graphics card and hard drive on my old
