CPU Pegged at 100%
I've seen this issue a number of times, but no firm solution, and have a few
differences with the other presentations. Just want to try to get at what's
going on with this machine.
HP Pavilion 503n, XPSP2, Celeron 1.7GHz, 1.3 GB RAM

logman question, NIC bytes sent/received
I have written a VBScript to control startup of logman to gather various
performance counters. Specifying a counter such as:
"\Network Interface(NIC_NAME)\Bytes Sent/sec"
requires an instance name for NIC_NAME. I can retrieve various fields from
the WMI class Win32_NetworkAdapter but I haven't found a field that works
when used as NIC_NAME. Can anyone tell me how to retrieve the right

Slow Startup
I have a Dell Latitude D820, 2yrs old. It has performed flawlessly up until
the last two weeks. Since then I've experienced problems with startup.
Everything comes up fine to the login screen. Once I login it could take
anywhere from normal boot up time, time prior to problem, to 10 minutes.
Sometimes my desktop will show all icons but the system tray items take

Faulting application svchost.exe, version 5.1.2600.5512
This is a persistent problem I have had for many months. I have McAfee
running all the time; I've run scans, I've run Adware; I've run chkdsk; I
even backed off SP3 and reinstalled it - all to no avail. The error dumps

Boot up Stopped
When i start my computer
I start booting but stoppes, there is no desktop
but you can bring up Taskmannager and nothing under the user is running
but all information can be retrived of the H/D
You can run programs extra. but it seems the the explore option is missing

trying to restore factory settings
I have two systems with xp 2002 on them. I want to clean them out completely
using the restore factory settings option. But when the dell splash screen
comes up, I press and release CTRL and F11 at the same time, but nothing
happens. Any helpfull advice on how else I can get this accomplished? Any

dark monitor on dell inspiron 6000
Hi,
My monitor is dark. I can see the desktop vaguely, and it gets better
when I shine a flash light on it, but the brightness that I am used to
is definitely gone.
I tried holding down the Fn button and hitting the up and down arrows,

Systray Notification Icons Don't Load
I have several things that load into the systray when I start my machine. I
have discovered that if all these things do not load, then network features
like printer spooling works VERY slow. There are times that all the icons
load (including volume icon and a few other incidentals) and my machine works

Unacceptable CPU usage!!!
I've got a 3GHz P4 dual core CPU and 512MB RAM, running on Windows XP Home.
Some might say the RAM is too less, but it has been doing its job for 2-3
years now, not a single problem related to that. I don't have any spyware or

Have Rebuilt OS and Need to Restore Files
My friend's computer wasn't working due to malware and I've rebuilt the OS
from an Image I made about a year ago. Before rebuilding it from the Image,
I performed I used the Windows Backup Utility and copied the c:\Documents and
Settings folder to a different HD.
After I restored the image, I updated several times with MSupdate, and
tweaked on the system.

Some Windows Explorer Folders Slow To Open or Refresh
Hi,
I have had the following issues on this PC for over a year and have "lived
with it", but I would really like to resolve them.
1. Some folders are very slow (several seconds to a minute) to open/paint
the screen. This includes the "My Computer" window/folder.
2. Some folders will not refresh automatically when there is an updated.

XP Dell Running Bad! Help?
I have a 6 year old Dell Dimensions XP computer that in recent months has

hyperlinks cannot be opened
For no apparent reason hyperlinks I insert into Outlook do not respond when I

defragmentation issues in XP
I am using the built in Windows defrag utility to tidy up my Windows C:
partition but encountering some very large files (tens of megabytes)
that are very fragmented and obviously "in use" therefore never get
defragged.
I am also unable to see exactly which ones they are as the dialog is not

Maxtor 6B200P0 lost file system
I use this HD in NAS enclosure as a STORAGE for our home computers (2x XP
Pro, one Vista and one MAC).
it was attached thru USB to a Linksys WRT350N router, also set for FTP,
got slow latelly from all reading-writing (pictures, movies, programs and

Do I need more memory?
