New Mirrored drive old drive size
I had an old hard drive. I bought a new one. I mirrored the old drive and put
that mirror on the new drive. Now after I installed the new drive it did
mirror it but it also has most sectors as unallocated. Can I just partition
that other half? Or can I join that unsed stuff to my current partition?
Having a c: and d: wouldn't be that bad but I'd rather not.

INvalid PK .. during set up..
am trying to use an XP disc under volume license agreement/ during the part
of the set up / i tried putting in my Retail <win xp pro>Copy Product key...
it gave me an ("The Product Key you have entered is invalid" )error
message...
is this retail PK ever going to work with this license copy of XP sp2?. need
help..

Trying to use DOS boot disk to format SATA hard drive...
Hello everyone,
I own a HP pavilion dv6628us laptop. It has a MK1237GSX 120 GB SATA hard
drive. I am trying to use a DOS boot disk to run fdisk to make two primary
partitions and one extended partition then format the partitions to be
fat32. Eventually I will install Vista on one primary partition then WinXP
in the other primary partition.

Reinstall of system failed
XP Home - I'm at a loss. I used manufactures system restore of OS to
reinstall after problems. I chose repair first and it didn't take so I chose
complete reinstall which I knew would wipe everything out. Okay, I just
wanted it fixed. The CD runs through its steps, format, transfering files,
finishing, then asks me to push its restart button, which I do. It blinks

Slipstreaming SP3 into VLK SP2
HI all, is it possable to slipstream either a XP SP3 download
(WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe) or the CD they send out into a VLK SP2
version, I have seen reports that it does cause problems but mainly if your
running Vista, which of course i'm not.
If it can be done is there any links that may help or anything i need to
watch out for ?

File and Transfer Issue - Cannot find data
I have just re-imaged my PC with the same copy of Windows XP and I used the
file transfer wizard on my old PC and saved the file twice on a network drive
(in different locations). Now that I have installed XP again on the new

Transferring Windows XP from old computer to new?
In 2002, I bought a new IBM computer that came with Windows XP installed on
its IDE hard drive. (The computer didn't come with an installation CD, though
I don't know whether that matters for present purposes.) The computer

Windows XP Preinstall Problem
I am having a problem with my Windows XP Preinstall. I am using a customized
PE CD that I have used many times. It goes through all the steps and then
during the “Installing Configuration Set†step I get the following error:
Cannot Authenticate to Server:Incorrect Function.
Any suggestions? I have tried 3 different CD’s that have worked in the past..

XP Pro install error - HELP!!
Hello experts,
I have a 6 year old Dell Dimension 4550 w/ XP Home. Machine is old/slow...so
I did new install w/ XP Pro to start off with a clean drive and hopefully
make it faster.

Errors During Setup
I am having to install my XP on a reformatted (zeroed out) hard drive. I
downloaded the correct XP Setup Boot Disk set and began the installation
process. All 6 Boot Disks installed without a hitch. When prompted I
inserted my Windows XP Home Edition CD and the file copying began. About two
thirds of the way through, there were 3 .dll files, and 1 .exe file that the

xp disk borrowed; won't accept COA from my computer.
Had microsoft automatic update mess up my system; got the whole logon
failure msgina.dll msg; tried to back to last good config; no dice. Brother
suggested I re install and gave me his CD; told me I could reinstall and
then enter my COA from tower; does not work; after spending time running
disk and reformat; it asks me to use disk and enter key code to finish setup

WAIK
I am trying to deploy a XP image using WAIK 1.1, but I keep falling down at
the first hurdle! I am trying to use the Vista boot.wim image to network boot
a PC, the PXE boot works fine, but when when Win PE starts up it fails to
connect to my network, and I get the error 'Wds client an error occurred
while starting networking: there was a failure whilst installing the network

Windows Explorer Misconfigured
'Something' on a non-technical friend's computer has messed around with the
menus in Windows Explorer.
1) The top menu ('File Edit View...etc.) has disappeared. Can anyone advise

Is there a way to install MS XP Pro or Vista on a USB hard drive and make
either XP or Vista bootable from the USB hard drive? Could we get a dual

SysPrep setup for an enduser machine
I build custom pc and after im all done with all the updates and
applications, i want to have the computer setup where when the end user
starts the pc they are presented with the mini setup screen. I have tried
sysprep but the user account that i created when i first installed Xp still
exists and AVG (licensed NOT FREE) antivirus prompts an error when the
computer boots after the
mini setup...

I recently purchased a HP Pavilion dv6628us laptop. It currently has a
factory/OEM version of Vista Home Edition (with all the trial software crap)
installed. It would have been nice to have all the software that came with
the laptop separated and a person could choose what to install but they
wanted/needed to bundle it :(

XP SP3 syspreped image hangs
I'm trying to get one of our 'universal' images to boot on a newer laptop and
i'm having problems. The image has worked well on almost any hardware i've
tried to run it on except recent machines with the new Intel chipset. When
the image is loaded on the new machines it hangs about 30 seconds into
Mini-setup.
Anyone have any ideas?

Ris and re-intallations cd
We have Dell computers and with them we get a reinstallations cd of Windows
XP Pro sp2. When using these cds one doesnt get any licens questions.
(the licens is on a tag on the side of the computer)
Now I have started to think about setting up a RIS server to help with
client re-installations.
Is it ok to use these kind of cds in RIS or must one use Enterprise versions
for this?...

MDT 2008. Installing an XP WIM to a disk with multiple partitions
Hello. I have a requirement to install an XP wim to a disk that has
two partitions using MDT on a removable media deployment point. I need
to install XP to partition 1 and retain data on the second partition.
Having trouble doing this as I cannot tell the task sequencer to only
format c:\ and install to it and not to "touch" any other partition.

Broken MBR - please help
Urgent...
I tried to install a Linux (Ubuntu) on another disk, and the GRUB utility
over-wrote my WindowsXP MBR, and obviously my PC no longer boots. I have a
laptop that, unfortunately, does not have a floppy disk drive but WindowsXP
doesn't recognize the internal SATA drive otherwise, so I cannot run recovery
console to use FIXMBR.

XP Home onto a 1TB hdd
I have new system with 1TB drive, and XP Home with a separate CD for SP2 and
a download of SP3 - BUT I understand it will only see the drive if the SP3 is
on the disk.
