RE-activating WinXP Home
I am helping a friend "rebuild" his system. This entailed reloading the OEM
CD's provided by Toshiba to return to the original image.
The system he has is Windows XP (Home) - SP1. As is their custom, Toshiba
has affixed the product activation key on the bottom of the laptop.
I was able to reload the OEM CDs without a problem but have not been able to
connect to the Microsoft Activati...

Welcome Screen
I am the Administrator and only user of my stand-alone home PC.
Every start-up requires me to sign in (pressing "Enter" is sufficient). How
can I avoid this? I would prefer to just start the PC, walk away and come
back some time later with the PC running, instead of having to wait around
for the sign in prompt.
Thank you....

WindowsXP setup
Hi All.
I am having very strange problem with WinXP installation. I am able to
install English WinXP SP3 without any problem.
However, when I try to install on the same PC Russian versions (SP2 and
SP3), neither is successful. Setup returns the error - can't set up
parameter. After that just "OK" button to reboot.
Any suggestions?...

Imagex Error: 1340 <filename> [Restore Sec. Descriptor:..failed]
I am restoring a WIM containing a capture of XP with Imagex.
About 7% in, I get this suite of error messages (below). Since I did not
know it would cause a problem, I did not exclude them.
Short of mounting the WIM and deleting the log files, does anyone have any
suggestions as to how I could work around this error. This is not the first
time I have gotten it, but the first time it h...

TRANSERING FILES
Now have a new computer. (And the old one too). Both have XP operating
systems. oOne SP2, other SP3. Would like to "easily" transfer files from old

mainly because it says file transfer between XP and Vista. Have sent a
question to that manufacturer.(XP to XP?) Also have Googled the subject with
varied results. Cat 5 ...

pagefile.sys, can it be deleted?
Hello,
I've seen lots of pages which recommend different methods to delete the
pagefile.sys.
The most popular methods, even posted by MS, include enabling in the local
security policies an option to automatically delete the file during shutdown
or running a script in the system32 folder (pagefileconfig.vbs /delete /VO
c:)
These methods are very popular and everybody uses them... but I...

MDT and copysource:lang setting
Hi,
Has anyone been able to somehow tweak the MDT scripts so that they support
specifying regional settings in the unattend/sysprep files when deploying XP/
win 2003? It's driving me crazy that this is the only thing that keeps me
from creating a fully automated end-to-end solution.
Have anyone had some luck with this?

Sysprep is working
Hi,
I am using MDT to deploy Windows XP Pro SP3 everything works fine right up
to the point where I run the capture process.
Sysprep starts up but it just sits on a screen reading "Sysprep is working".
I have left this running overnight and there is no change and the computer
seems to be doing very little.
Any ideas?

can ctrl+alt+del "lock computer" be disabled on the client?
Hi,
the org I work for has a number of clients that are used by multiple people.
Despite being trained to use ctrl+alt+del for log on ONLY, many users are
locking the workstation, rendering it unusalbe by the next person. We do
not want to disable this feature at the user level becauseit would be
nighmare. Can the 'lock computer' function be disabled on the client? Or
